Remember when I said this community is special? Last night at Tejas Pickleball Club proved exactly why.

If you've been following along, you know that "living the pickleball addict life" isn't just about perfecting your third-shot drop or obsessing over paddle specs (though let's be honest, we do plenty of that too 🤪). It's about something bigger—it's about showing up. For the game, for each other, for the moments that remind us why we fell in love with this sport in the first place.

Last night, December 5th, was one of those moments.

When Picklers Show Up for Each Other

Our local Georgetown crew gathered for what could only be described as the perfect pickleball trifecta: competitive play, holiday celebration, and most importantly, rallying around one of our own who needed support.

Jason hard at work organizing

Huge shoutout to Jason, who poured his heart into organizing a fundraising rally tournament for a local pickleball friend in need ❤️. Watching him coordinate everything—from brackets to food & beverage to making sure every detail came together—that's the kind of dedication that makes this community what it is.

The tournament itself? Pure pickleball addict energy 🏓. Local peeps bringing their A-game, not just for the competition, but because every point played meant something more. That's what happens when you combine our love for the game with a chance to support someone in our community—the energy shifts from "let's win" to "let's make a difference." 🫶

Celebrating the End of Year, Pickleball Style 🎉🎄

But here's the thing about our community—we know how to celebrate too. After the competitive rallies, we shifted into full holiday party mode with a Christmas theme that would make Santa jealous.

The White Elephant gift exchange? Absolute chaos in the best way possible 🐘🎁. There's something hilarious about watching serious 4.0+ players strategize over stealing packages with the same intensity they bring to the court. The trash talk during White Elephant might have been even better than during the matches (and that's saying something).

Look at these faces. This is what it's all about.

When the Pros Come to Town

Just when we thought the night couldn't get any better, we got treated to exhibition matches that had everyone glued to the courts.

Three PPA Tour pros joined us for the evening:

  • Zoeya Khan took on our local 4.0+ players with gusto
  • Lulu Stanciu brought the heat against our best 4.0+ peeps
  • Danna Funaro came out to support her PPA friends and our local community

Visiting PPA Pros

Watching these pros play is one thing. Watching them play against people you drill with every week? That's a whole different level of exciting. Our local 4.0+ players held their own, and you could feel the respect and sportsmanship flowing both ways across the net. 🤙 🏓

A Community Within a Community 🫶

Here's what I've learned from nights like this: being a pickleball addict isn't a solo journey. Sure, we each work on our own game, buy our own paddles (too many of them, probably), and obsess over our DUPR ratings. But the real addiction? It's to moments like these.

It's Jason staying up late to organize a fundraiser. It's players showing up on a Friday night not just to compete, but to contribute. It's the laughter during White Elephant, the gasps during pro rallies, the hugs and high-fives that happen naturally when this many picklers gather in one place.

The Georgetown pickleball scene isn't just a group of people who happen to play the same sport. We're a pickleball community within the bigger pickleball community—and nights like last night remind me why that matters so much.

To everyone who came out, played hard, laughed harder, and opened their hearts (and wallets) for a friend in need: you're what makes living the pickleball addict life so darn special 🫶.

This is why we're addicted. 🤪 😄 🏓
